Monorail Service Disrupted in Wadala Amid Heavy Rains; Red Alert Issued for Mumbai

Heavy rainfall in Mumbai on Sunday night resulted in waterlogging across several areas and disruptions to public transport. In the Wadala area, monorail services were briefly suspended after a technical fault led to a supply disruption, causing panic among passengers.

The Monorail Corporation stated that the issue, which is under investigation, was due to a supply failure. Emergency services, including the fire department, responded promptly and evacuated 17 passengers from the stalled train. The stranded commuters were transferred to another monorail arriving from Chembur to minimize inconvenience.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) confirmed that the situation is under control and that technical teams are working to resolve the issue.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad, forecasting intense rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30–40 km/h until 11:30 AM today.

Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious and follow weather updates.

In addition to Mumbai and Pune, high alerts have been declared for Solapur and Ahmednagar due to expected heavy rains. A yellow alert has been issued for Nashik, Palghar, Jalna, and Nagpur, where light to moderate showers are likely.

According to the IMD, light to moderate rain/thunderstorm at many/some places with isolated heavy rainfall likely over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra & Marathawada, is expected on September 16 and “very heavy rain falls over Konkan & Goa Madhya, Maharashtra & Marathawada, on September 15.​
