Amidst the escalating tensions in the ‘war’ between Israel and Palestine, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has cautioned Indians in Israel. In a statement, the MEA has requested the Indian citizens to ‘remain vigilant’, ‘observe safety protocols’, and ‘stay close to safety shelters.’

"In view of the current situation in Israel, all Indian nationals in Israel are requested to remain vigilant, and observe safety protocols as advised by local authorities. Please exercise caution, avoid unnecessary movement, and stay close to safety shelters.” said the statement. Listings of a helpline number, email id, and the assistance of an embassy personnel have also been included in the Ministry’s statement. “For additional information, please see the Israeli Home Front Command website or their preparedness brochure…In case of emergency, please contact us at +97235226748, or leave a message at cons1.telaviv@mea.gov.in. The Embassy personnel remain at your disposal for any further guidance.” added the Ministry of External Affairs.

Israel has declared a state of ‘war’ following the barrage of rockets that were fired from the Gaza Strip that continued for about half an hour during the morning hours of Saturday. Claiming responsibility for the attack, the Palestinian Hamas militants described it as their very "first strike". We are at War. We will win”, said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.  Stating that the rockets launched mark the beginning of ‘Operation Al-Aqsa Storm’, Hamas Military Commander Mohammad Deif said, “We've decided to say enough is enough.” Giving a clarion call to Palestinians everywhere to join the fight, he added, “Today is the biggest battle to end the last occupation.” The unprecedented escalation of tension between Israel and Palestine has claimed at least 22 lives and over 70 are gravely injured.
