Heavy rains lash Delhi-NCR; flight advisories issued

Heavy rain lashed parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Tuesday morning. Neighbouring areas including Noida and Ghaziabad also recorded spells of intense rainfall. The showers were accompanied by gusty winds in several parts of the capital.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with light rain or drizzle across Delhi-NCR through the day. An orange alert has been issued for Delhi and Gurugram until 2.55 pm, while Noida and Ghaziabad remain under a yellow alert.

The downpour also led to waterlogging in parts of the city. The Zakhira underpass in Delhi was inundated, causing inconvenience for commuters.

Airlines issued advisories warning of possible disruption to flight schedules. IndiGo said, “Persistent rainfall and thunderstorms are currently affecting #Delhi, leading to possible delays in flight operations. Our teams are closely monitoring the situation to ensure your journey resumes as soon as conditions improve.” It advised passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport and to allow extra time for travel given slower road conditions.

Air India also cautioned that services to and from Delhi might be affected. “Please check your flight status online and allow extra time for your journey due to possible slow moving traffic,” the airline said.

Delhi airport authorities, however, clarified in an advisory released at 11.56 am that operations were normal. “Our on-ground teams are working diligently with all stakeholders to ensure your journey remains hassle-free,” the statement added.
