In the ongoing investigation into the alleged robbery attempt at Saif Ali Khan’s residence, the actor reportedly told Mumbai Police that the stabbing he suffered during the incident was not carried out with full force. Instead, he believes the accused’s primary intention was theft and possibly not to cause him harm personally.
According to sources close to the case, Saif explained to police that, when confronted by the assailant, he was attacked with a knife. However, the actor emphasized that the attack lacked aggression. "The accused stabbed me when I approached him, but the attack wasn’t very forceful. He had a weapon, and he could have inflicted more serious injuries, but he chose not to," Saif Ali Khan reportedly told police, claim sources
The actor also remarked on the absurdity of the situation, stating, “How foolish of him to think we keep Rs 1 crore in the house. No one keeps that much cash at home.”
Sources also clarified that it was Saif’s caretaker, Hari, who rushed him to the hospital after the attack, not his children Taimur or Ibrahim, or his associate Afsar Zaidi, as initially was assumed.
In the case involving 30-year-old Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, alias Vijay Das, who remains in Mumbai Police custody, initial investigations suggest that the accused was unaware that he was targeting Saif Ali Khan’s home.
The accused, Shehzad, entered the building through a fire exit and attempted to gain access to the lobby. However, all doors from the 1st to the 10th floor were locked. On the 11th floor, the fire exit door was also closed, but the suspect managed to enter through a broken air conditioning duct into the bedroom of Saif's relative, Jay, claim sources.
Sources say the assailant, unable to access any other floors, discovered an opening in the air conditioning fitting space on the 11th floor, which led him into the bedroom.
In the aftermath of the attack, one of the caretakers immediately contacted the police. Upon their arrival, Saif’s wife, Kareena Kapoor, was found outside the building, where she cautioned officers about the presence of an armed intruder and advised them against going upstairs.
By the time the police reached the crime scene, the accused had fled, exiting through the same route he had used to enter. Authorities discovered multiple fingerprints at the location, and forensic analysis revealed that some of these prints matched those of the arrested suspect.
Despite initial doubts regarding discrepancies between the suspect’s appearance and the individual captured in CCTV footage, the police claim that they are confident that they have nabbed the right person and have enough evidence to link the accused to the crime.
