At least 2 people were killed and 9 others grievously injured in a blast at an ordnance factory in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district on Tuesday. Three employees of the factory who have been critically injured have been rushed to private hospitals.

As per reports, the blast occurred at the Central Security Institute Ordnance Factory in Khadaria where bombs and explosives are manufactured. The general manager and senior officials rushed to the accident spot to take stock of the situation.

The authorities have informed that the hydraulic system used to fill bombs malfunctioned in building 200 of the factory’s F6 section, causing the blast that could be heard from 5 kms away. Locals reported that they heard the loud sound and felt tremors. Some of them thought an earthquake had hit and rushed out of their houses seeking shelter.

Following the blast, a portion of the building collapsed. The authorities fear that some workers could be trapped under the debris, and rescue operations are being carried out to help those that have been affected.
