Three people, including the chief executive officer of a private IT firm, have been arrested in Rajasthan’s Udaipur in connection with the alleged gangrape of a woman manager after a birthday party, police said on Friday.
The arrests were made after a case was registered at Sukher police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, based on a complaint filed by the survivor. The accused include the company’s CEO, a senior female executive of the firm, and her husband, a resident of Meerut.
“The accused were arrested following the registration of a case at Sukher police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. They were produced before a court on Thursday and sent on four-day police remand,” Udaipur Superintendent of Police Yogesh Goyal said.
According to the police, the incident allegedly took place after a birthday party hosted by the CEO last Saturday. The woman, who works as a manager in the same company, was invited to the gathering along with other colleagues.
As the party ended and guests began to leave, the woman was allegedly left behind, police said, citing her complaint. She told investigators that the company’s female executive head then offered to drop her home. She got into a car in which the CEO and the executive head’s husband were also present.
During the drive, the accused allegedly stopped at a shop and bought a substance resembling cigarettes, which was offered to the woman, PTI reported. An earlier report by Hindustan Times claimed that liquor was purchased and forcibly made to her consume alcohol.
In her complaint, the woman said she lost consciousness after consuming the substance. She alleged that she regained awareness while being sexually assaulted inside the moving vehicle, and that all three accused were involved despite her resistance.
She further stated that she was kept inside the car until the early hours of the morning before being dropped at her residence. The woman reported severe pain and weakness following the incident and subsequently underwent a medical examination at a private hospital.
According to the complaint, the medical report confirmed sexual assault, after which she approached the police. Her medical examination has since been conducted and her statements formally recorded.
