Military installations in Jammu, Pathankot and Udhampur came under coordinated attack by drones and missiles of Pakistani origin along the International Border in Jammu & Kashmir on Thursday, the Ministry of Defence said in an official statement. The attempted strikes, which posed a serious security threat, were “swiftly neutralised using kinetic and non-kinetic capabilities in line with established Standard Operating Procedures."

"Military stations at Jammu, Pathankot & Udhampur were targeted by
Pakistani-origin #drones and missiles along the International Border in
J&K today. The threats were swiftly neutralised using kinetic and non-kinetic
capabilities in line with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)," reads the statement.

“No casualties or material losses were reported,” said the Ministry of Defence in a statement. The nature of the attack — involving unmanned aerial vehicles and missile systems — represents a significant escalation in cross-border hostilities, particularly in light of recent tensions in the region. The Ministry of Defence reiterated that India remains vigilant and capable of responding to such provocations. “India remains fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its people,” the statement concluded.

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated sharply on Thursday following a series of cross-border attacks and counterstrikes. This latest surge in hostilities began with Pakistan’s failed attempts to launch drone and missile strikes on Jammu and surrounding military installations. Indian authorities responded by activating the Integrated Air Defence Systems (IADS) across the northern and western sectors to bolster defensive readiness.

In a significant development earlier in the evening, Indian air defences intercepted and destroyed eight Pakistani missiles near Jammu. The attempted strike caused temporary blackouts in the Vaishno Devi shrine area in Reasi district, while similar power outages were reported in Srinagar, amid heightened security protocols.

Adding to the evening's escalation, a Pakistan Air Force F-16 fighter jet was reportedly shot down by a surface-to-air missile system. The downing of the aircraft has further intensified the already fragile situation along the border.

In retaliation for the earlier Pakistani strikes on 15 military sites across India, the Indian armed forces carried out precision attacks on Pakistani air defence installations. Key areas believed to be under threat during the evening included Jammu civil airport, Samba, RS Pura, Arnia, and nearby regions.

The Indian Air Force deployed its advanced S-400 air defence system, known domestically as the ‘Sudarshan Chakra’, which successfully neutralised incoming threats with high accuracy.
