A man in Telangana has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife by setting her on fire, reportedly driven by suspicions about her character. The incident occurred inside the couple’s residence and was witnessed by their children, police said.
According to investigators, the accused attacked his wife, poured petrol on her and set her ablaze. When their daughter attempted to intervene, he allegedly pushed her into the flames. Neighbours, alerted by the woman’s screams, rushed to the house and shifted both the woman and her daughter to a hospital.
The woman later succumbed to her injuries, while the daughter survived with minor burn wounds, police said.
The accused has been identified as Venkatesh, a native of Huzurabad in Nalgonda district, while the victim was identified as Triveni. The couple, who had married for love, have two children—a daughter and a son.
Police said Venkatesh frequently suspected his wife and subjected her to harassment, leading to repeated domestic disputes. Unable to endure the alleged abuse, Triveni had recently moved to her parental home. Venkatesh later assured her that he would change and brought her back to Hyderabad.
However, within days of their return, the alleged murder took place. A case was registered by Nallakunta police, who launched a manhunt. The accused fled the scene but was tracked down and arrested within 12 hours, officials said.
