Rahul Gandhi Urges PM Modi to Convene Special Parliament Session After Pahalgam Terror Attack

In the aftermath of the deadly terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to convene a special session of Parliament. Gandhi said such a session would allow representatives of the people to display unity and resolve in the face of terrorism.
"The terrorist attack in Pahalgam has outraged every Indian. At this critical time, India must show that we will always stand together against terrorism. The Opposition believes that a special session of both Houses of Parliament should be convened, where the representatives of the people can show their unity and determination.", Gandhi wrote in his letter.
The Congress party also took aim at Prime Minister Modi through its official social media channels. In a pointed post, it shared a graphic of an empty chair with the silhouette of a politician, captioned: "‘जिम्मेदारी’ के समय – Gayab" (Missing at the time of ‘responsibility’), suggesting the Prime Minister’s silence or absence during a moment of national crisis.
In recent months, the Opposition has repeatedly criticised the government’s internal security policies, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir. With multiple high-profile attacks occurring in quick succession, pressure is mounting on the Centre to respond more transparently.
Meanwhile, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla went a step further, branding the Congress as the “PPP – Pakistan Prasth Party”. “It is now clear that the Congress party has become 'PPP-Pakistan Prasth Party'. Not only do both have the same script, but their actions and political culture have also become indistinguishable,” said Poonawalla.
He further accused the Congress of repeatedly offering Pakistan a "clean chit" in major terror attacks. “Congress defended Pakistan after 26/11, did the same after Pulwama, and now is doing it again after Pahalgam,” he alleged.
