Protests Erupt Outside Bangladesh High Commission After Killing of Hindu Man

A wave of protests broke out outside the Bangladesh High Commission on Tuesday, following the killing of a Hindu man in Bangladesh, triggering heightened security and police action in the area.

The demonstrations were led by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Bajrang Dal, who accused Bangladeshi authorities of failing to protect religious minorities and alleged repeated attacks on Hindu places of worship. Protesters demanded accountability and justice for the victim, Dipu Chandra Das.

Tensions escalated as demonstrators attempted to push past police barricades, leading to clashes with security personnel. Police resorted to a brief lathi-charge after protesters broke through at least two layers of barricading. Slogans such as “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, “Yunus Sarkar hosh mein aao” and “Hindu hatya band karo” echoed during the protest.

A similar protest was held near the Bangladesh Consulate, where VHP members raised slogans condemning the alleged mistreatment of Hindus in Bangladesh. Mumbai Police swiftly brought the situation under control by deploying heavy security around the consulate building, preventing any breach. Several protesters were briefly detained as police cleared the area and restored barricades.

Dipu Chandra Das, a 25-year-old garment factory worker, was lynched by a mob in Baluka area of Mymensingh on December 18 over alleged blasphemy. His body was later set on fire. The incident has drawn sharp reactions in India and renewed calls for the protection of minorities in Bangladesh.
