PM Modi Chairs CCPA Meet Amid Rising Security Concerns Post Pahalgam Attack

In the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA), the most influential body within the Union Cabinet, often referred to as the “Super Cabinet.”

This was the second time the Cabinet Committee on Security, which comprises the Prime Minister, Defence Minister, Home Minister, Finance Minister, and External Affairs Minister, has met since the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting followed an earlier round of deliberations held by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), as the government reviews its response to escalating tensions along the borders and growing security threats.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army reported that during the night of April 29-30, Pakistani Army posts resorted to unprovoked small arms firing across multiple sectors along the Line of Control (LoC). The firing was reported opposite the Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor sectors in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a further update, similar unprovoked firing incidents were reported from Pakistani positions across the LoC in Baramulla and Kupwara districts. Additionally, firing was also reported along the International Border in the Pargwal sector.

The Indian Army confirmed that its troops responded appropriately to the ceasefire violations.

However, a total of 786 Pakistani nationals exited India through the Attari-Wagah border crossing between April 24 and April 29, a senior official confirmed on Tuesday.

The official further stated that during the same period, 1,376 Indian citizens returned from Pakistan using the same border point. The cross-border movement is part of routine travel between the two countries, facilitated under existing agreements and clearances.
