Man Held for Allegely Abusing PM Modi at Bihar Congress Rally

Darbhanga Police have arrested Mohammad Rizvi alias Raja for allegedly using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a Congress- rally in Darbhang, Bihar. Rizvi is a resident of Bhapura village in Singhwara, Darbhanga.

Police confirmed Rizvi’s arrest, stating that he was among the individuals seen using objectionable language during the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’, which was part of the broader INDIA bloc campaign.

The incident drew widespread outrage and the video of it recorded during a public address in Darbhanga, went viral on social media. The rally stage featured posters of key INDIA bloc leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav. It was the same platform from which the leaders later began their motorcycle rally to Muzaffarpur.

In response to the video, the BJP filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Kotwali Police Station in Patna. The party has demanded a formal apology from Rahul Gandhi, who is leading the Voter Adhikar Yatra, alleging that the remarks were made under the Congress’s watch.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar condemned the incident, calling the language used against the Prime Minister and his late mother unacceptable.
“The use of indecent language against PM Narendra Modi ji and his late mother from the Congress and RJD platforms during the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga is extremely unbecoming, and I condemn it,” he wrote in a post on X.

Congress distanced itself from the remarks. Party leader Rashid Alvi stated that the party does not support such conduct.
“We do not approve of such language, and we condemn this act,” he said.

However, the BJP has continued to mount pressure on Congress, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah launching a sharp attack on Rahul Gandhi. Speaking at an event on Friday, Shah called the incident a disgrace to Indian political culture and demanded that Gandhi issue an apology. “I want to urge Rahul Gandhi that if he has even a little bit of shame left, he must apologise to Modi ji, to his late mother, and to the people of this country,” Shah said. “May God give wisdom to everyone.”

Shah went on to describe the remarks as deeply painful, highlighting the Prime Minister’s modest upbringing and his mother’s sacrifices. “Modi ji’s mother lived a simple life, raising her children with dignity despite poverty. To insult such a person is something the people of India can never tolerate,” he said. “There can be no greater fall in political life than this, and I strongly condemn it.”

The Union Minister also accused Congress of normalising hate in public discourse.
“Congress leaders have committed the most condemnable act by using derogatory words against PM Modi's mother,” Shah said. “The more the Congress abuses, the more BJP wins.”
