Mumbai: The swearing-in ceremony of Maharashtra’s Maha-Yuti government will be held on December 5 at 5 PM at Azad Maidan in Mumbai, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in attendance, announced state BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Saturday.

In a social media post, Bawankule wrote, “The oath-taking ceremony of the Maha-Yuti Government in Maharashtra will take place in the esteemed presence of the pride of the world, Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji.”

The announcement comes even as the BJP has yet to name its chief ministerial candidate or formally stake a claim to form the government by approaching the Raj Bhavan. Sources indicate that the BJP will hold a meeting on December 2 to select its legislature party leader.

CM Post Unsettled, Pressure Mounts for Key Portfolios

Caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has reportedly retreated to his village in Satara due to illness, while BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis has remained silent on the leadership issue. Meanwhile, Shinde’s party MLAs—Sanjay Shirsat, Shambhuraj Desai, and Bharat Gogawale—have demanded that the home ministry portfolio be assigned to Shinde in the new government, arguing that it should remain with the deputy chief minister, as it did in the previous administration.

This demand has created friction within the alliance, with the BJP reportedly dissatisfied but continuing to push ahead with its plans.

Ajit Pawar Confirms BJP-Led Government

Adding clarity to the ongoing uncertainty, NCP leader Ajit Pawar stated in Pune on Saturday that the next chief minister would indeed be from the BJP. He also confirmed that there would be two deputy chief ministers from the other Maha-Yuti alliance partners, solidifying the coalition’s power-sharing arrangement.
