“Made to Spread Hatred…”: Samajwadi Party MLA Slams Dhurandhar 2; Calls it a “Pakistani Film”

The controversy surrounding Dhurandhar 2 continues to intensify, with Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi attacking the Ranveer Singh-starrer on Friday. Calling it “a false film” and alleging that the movie is designed to spread hatred rather than entertain.

Azmi questioned the very intent behind the film’s release in India. “This film is made only to spread hatred, and it is a false film. It is a Pakistani film, so why not show it to the people of Pakistan? Why show the people of Hindustan?” he said.

He further accused the makers of portraying a selective narrative and the film unfairly targets Muslims by focusing on a handful of criminals while ignoring several other major crimes in the country.

Earlier, SP MLA Rais Shaikh had also raised concerns, arguing that cinema should not turn into a vehicle for political messaging. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Shaikh said films like Dhurandhar blur the line between storytelling and propaganda, adding, “This isn’t art, it’s agenda.”

The film has also faced operational issues. During its paid previews on March 18, several shows across the country were either cancelled or delayed, and director Aditya Dhar immediately issued an apology to audiences.

However, despite the backlash and initial disruptions, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has performed strongly at the box office. The film crossed the Rs 100 crore mark on its opening day and has since raked in an estimated Rs 145.55 crore across languages, indicating a strong start to what could be a blockbuster run.
