A first-year law student has filed a harrowing complaint alleging that she was raped inside the union room of her South Kolkata college by a former student leader, while two other individuals stood by and watched. NTT has accessed the handwritten complaint of a first-year law student who has accused three men- including a former student leader of gang-rape inside a South Calcutta Law college. The account, recorded at Kasba Police Station on June 26, describes a terrifying sequence of events on the evening of June 25, unfolding over three hours, from 7 PM to nearly 11 PM.
The complaint outlines how the survivor was confined, sexually assaulted, threatened with explicit videos, and denied medical help, all within her own campus. According to the victim’s written statement to Kasba Police, she had gone to college to submit an exam form. After finishing, she was seated near the union room when Manojit Mishra, a former student known in campus circles as a ‘powerful TMCP’ leader, walked in and began assigning posts to students. She was named Girl’s Secretary.
Later that afternoon, Manojit allegedly approached her again, this time with a packet of biscuits, and asked her to come inside the union room to discuss something important. Once inside, he reportedly spoke about union politics and his leadership position, but soon shifted the conversation to personal matters. He told the student that he had feelings for her and even proposed marriage. She declined, saying she was already in a relationship. Manojit appeared to accept this and walked back with her to join the others.
But what followed, the complaint states, was a premeditated act. At around 6:30 PM, as students began to leave for the day, Monojit, along with Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee, called her back to the union room. Once inside, Monojit allegedly signaled Zaib and Pramit to step out and lock the door from outside. It was around 7:30 PM.
What began as conversation quickly turned violent, as the complainant states Monojit ‘dragged’ her near the washroom and began forcing himself on her. She resisted, cried, and pleaded to be let go. She then began suffering a panic attack and had difficulty breathing. Monojit called the other two accused back inside. The girl reportedly begged for help- asking to be taken to Ruby Hospital or be given an inhaler. One of the aides brought her an inhaler, which gave her brief relief, but her request to leave was denied.
When she attempted to leave, she discovered that the main gate had been locked, and even the security guard refused to let her exit. She pleaded, fell at their feet, and asked to be released. Instead, the three accused took her to the guard’s room, where Monojit allegedly raped her while Zaib and Pramit stood and watched.
“I was raped when two others watched,” the complaint reads.
She further stated that Monojit showed her videos of the assault and threatened to leak them if she spoke to anyone or refused to “cooperate.” At one point, he allegedly tried to hit her with a hockey stick. She sustained an injury to her head, and in fear for her life, pretended to be unconscious.
Monojit then committed forceful penetration, the complaint says.
Around 10:50 PM, she was finally allowed to leave. She immediately contacted her father and the following day, on June 26, she lodged a complaint at Kasba Police Station.
A case was registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to rape, wrongful confinement, and criminal intimidation. All three accused — Monojit Mishra (31), Zaib Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukherjee (20) — were arrested within 24 hours. Police have seized their mobile phones and requested custody till July 10 for further investigation.
The victim, in her concluding lines to police, wrote:
“I want justice. I’m a law student, and today I’m the victim… Please take action against Monojit, Zaib, and Pramit.”
Timeline of Alleged Events- As Per Complaint
2:05 PM – College Visit
“I had gone to college to fill up my exam form,” the student writes.
After finishing the form, she sat near the union room, where she noticed Monojit Mishra — an ex-student and prominent TMCP leader — assigning political roles to students. She was offered the post of Girl’s Secretary.
Around 4:00 PM – Biscuit & Invitation
“Monojit came with a packet of biscuit and handed it to me,” she states.
“He called me inside the union room, saying something important needed to be discussed.”
Inside, Monojit first spoke about college politics, but the conversation soon turned personal.
“I promised my loyalty to him and the team since I was made Girl’s Secretary,” she recalled telling his aide.
Later – Personal Confession
Monojit took her outside the union room and confessed his feelings:
“He told me he liked me from day one and wanted to marry me.”
She declined, saying she was already in a relationship. He appeared to accept that and left it there.
6:30 PM – Called Back Inside
As most students started to leave for the day, Monojit, along with Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee, allegedly called her back into the union room.
“Through eye contact, Monojit signalled Zaib and Pramit to leave,” she wrote.
The duo exited and locked the room from outside. The time was around 7:30 PM.
7:30 PM Onwards – Assault Begins
“He dragged me near the washroom and began forcing himself on me. I cried, begged, and resisted.”
The complaint says she had a panic attack and struggled to breathe. Seeing her condition, Monojit called Zaib and Pramit back in.
“I begged them to take me to Ruby Hospital… or at least get me an inhaler.”
An aide brought her the inhaler. She used it and recovered slightly — but was not allowed to leave.
Gate Locked, Guard Refused Help
“When I tried to escape, I found the main gate locked. The guard was helpless…didn’t help”
The accused allegedly took her back to the union room, where she fell at their feet, begging.
Guard Room– The Alleged Rape
“Monojit told Zaib and Pramit to take me to the guard’s room and keep the guard outside.”
There, the assault escalated.
“Inside the guard’s room, Monojit raped me while the other two stood and watched.”
Digital Blackmail
“He showed me videos that he had recorded while raping me. He said he would leak them if I didn’t cooperate.”
She also alleged that Monojit threatened to arrest her parents and claimed he had political backing.
Injury and Threat with Hockey Stick
“I got injured on my head… He even tried to hit me with a hockey stick. I stopped fighting back to escape alive.”
She lay still, pretending to be unconscious.
“I just wanted to get out quickly. I didn’t move- just lay like a dead body.”
“Monojit threatened to kill my boyfriend and get my parents arrested”
10:50 PM – Release
“They finally let me go at 10:50 PM. I immediately called my father.”
She later visited the police station and filed a complaint.
Survivor's Closing Plea
“I am a law student — today I am a victim. I want justice. Please take action against Monojit, Zaib, and Pramit,” she wrote at the end of her complaint.
The college has not yet made a public statement.
