Five passengers and two crew members on board an Air India flight from London to Mumbai fell ill mid-air on Monday, raising fresh concerns about in-flight safety and food standards. According to a statement issued by Air India, those affected experienced symptoms including nausea and dizziness during different phases of the nearly nine-hour journey.
“On board flight AI130 from London Heathrow to Mumbai, five passengers and two crew reported feeling dizzy and nauseous. The flight landed safely in Mumbai where our medical teams were ready to provide immediate medical assistance,” said an Air India spokesperson.
Upon arrival, two passengers and two cabin crew who continued to feel unwell were taken to the airport’s medical facility for further evaluation. They were later discharged after treatment.
Air India confirmed that the incident is under investigation and that aviation authorities have been informed as per protocol. The airline has not yet confirmed whether contaminated food was the cause of the illness.
This incident comes amid growing scrutiny of Air India’s in-flight services following a series of recent operational issues. Just last week, the airline was directed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to remove senior officials from crew management roles following an aircraft overshoot in Ahmedabad. Separately, the airline has faced criticism over multiple flight cancellations and delays tied to maintenance and scheduling failures.
