“We humbly accept the mandate…” Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wrote on ‘X’ after major election drubbing in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh. The grand old party lost the election battle in the Hindi heartland while they managed to wrest Telangana from Bharat Rashtra Samiti(BRS). After Karnataka, victory in Telangana was a major boost for Congress in the southern part of India. Rahul Gandhi who had a maximum number of election rallies in Telangana, the only state where even Sonia Gandhi had campaigned this election season, thanked the voters and assured them implementation of their promise. Even after the embarrassing defeat in Chattisgarh where the exit poll had predicted Congress’ edge, Rahul Gandhi has stressed that the “battle of ideology” will continue.

“We humbly accept the mandate of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan - the battle of ideology will continue. I am very thankful to the people of Telangana - we will definitely fulfill the promise of making Prajalu Telangana. Heartfelt thanks to all the workers for their hard work and support” Rahul Gandhi wrote on ‘X’.

In Chattisgarh, BJP is leading in 54 seats while Congress is in 36 so far. In Madhya Pradesh Congress stood at 67 while BJP is leading in 162 out of 230 seats. In Rajasthan, another state where Congress was in power, the BJP is leading in 115 seats while Congress scored the lead in 70 seats out of 119 so far.

While for Congress, Telangana is the only face-saver, there too BJP has almost doubled its vote share. BJP was less than seven percent in 2018 which they have doubled to nearly 14 percent (so far) in 2023.
