‘Bugle for New Bengal Has Sounded’: PM Modi Launches Fierce Attack on TMC at Kolkata Mega Rally

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp political attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress during a massive rally at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata on Saturday, declaring that the “storm of change” in West Bengal cannot be stopped and asserting that the countdown for the end of the current government has begun.

Addressing thousands of supporters in what is supposed to be his last trip ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, the Prime Minister framed the contest as a fight to restore law and order and revive development in the state. “Change in Bengal is now written on the walls and etched in the hearts of Bengal’s people,” PM Modi said, adding that “the end of the ruthless government from Bengal is inevitable now.”

Referring to the historic significance of the Brigade Ground, Modi said the venue had often been the birthplace of political change in the country. “The history of Brigade Parade Ground bears witness that whenever Bengal shows the country the way, this ground becomes the voice of Bengal,” he said. “What is going on in the mind of people of Bengal, one has to look around this arena…Today once again, the bugle of the revolution for a new Bengal has sounded from Brigade Ground,” the Prime Minister said.

Rule of Law to Counter Jungle Raj: PM

The Prime Minister accused the state government led by Mamata Banerjee of fostering what he described as “maha jungle raj”, alleging that corruption, violence and political intimidation had hindered the state’s development and discouraged investment. He said that restoring the rule of law would be a priority if the BJP comes to power in the state.

“The day is not far when the rule of law will return to Bengal,” Modi said. “Whoever breaks the law will not be spared.”

The rally marked a key political moment in the BJP’s campaign for the upcoming Assembly elections, with the party positioning it as the culmination of its outreach programmes across the state. Alongside the political messaging, the Prime Minister also launched and inaugurated multiple development projects aimed at strengthening infrastructure and connectivity in West Bengal.

PM Modi virtually inaugurated the Purulia to Anand Vihar (Delhi) Terminal Express as a part of the Center’s connectivity projects across India. From the stage, the Prime Minister announced that Bengal will be the first leg of the new chapter in India’s development journey. On Saturday alone, PM unveiled projects worth Rs. 18,680cr, including laying of foundation stone for five sections of the 231 km-long four-lane Kharagpur-Moregram Economic Corridor, which is expected to reduce the by-road journey time by nearly 120kms, i.e. seven to eight hours.

The corridor will integrate key National Highways, including NH-16, NH-19, NH-14 and NH-12.

According to officials, the projects announced during the visit are expected to boost regional connectivity, urban infrastructure and economic activity in the state, with the Centre highlighting them as part of its broader development push in eastern India.

Modi also alleged that the state government had attempted to obstruct the rally by creating logistical hurdles for supporters travelling to the venue. However, he said the turnout at the Brigade Ground demonstrated the public mood ahead of the elections.

“No matter how hard this tyrannical government tries, it will not be able to stop the storm of change,” the Prime Minister said, projecting the coming election as not merely a political contest but a battle over the future direction of West Bengal.
