Security Manager Booked for Theft of IPL Jerseys Worth ₹6.52 Lakh from BCCI Office

Marine Drive Police have registered a case against a security manager for allegedly stealing 261 IPL player jerseys worth Rs 6.52 lakh from the official merchandise store of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), located on the second floor of Wankhede Stadium.

According to police officials, the theft took place on June 13, 2025, and a formal complaint was lodged on July 17, 2025. The FIR has been registered under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The complainant, Hemang Bharat Kumar Amin (44), a BCCI employee residing in Mahim, alleged that Farooq Aslam Khan (46), a security manager and resident of Gaurav Excellency, Mira Road (East), unlawfully entered the BCCI merchandise store and stole jerseys of various IPL teams, including DC, MI, LSG, SRH, KKR, PBKS, GT, RCB, RR, and CSK. The total value of the stolen jerseys has been estimated at Rs 6.52 lakhs.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that he committed the theft to fund his online gambling addiction. He confessed to selling the stolen jerseys to an online dealer in Haryana, receiving payment in his bank account. However, police are yet to ascertain the exact amount he received. It has also emerged that the accused squandered the entire sum on online betting.

Police investigations have revealed that Khan came into contact with the online dealer through social media and shipped the jerseys via courier.

The dealer, who has also been questioned, claimed he was unaware the jerseys were stolen, stating Khan had told him they were part of a stock clearance due to office renovation.

Marine Drive Police are currently analyzing CCTV footage and other evidence to trace the stolen jerseys and determine whether they were meant for players or the general public. Further investigation is underway.
