Unidentified gunmen on Friday evening opened fire on Assam Rifles personnel in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, killing one soldier and injuring three others.
According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the attack took place at Nambol Sabal Leikai, under the jurisdiction of Nambol police station, around 6 p.m. The soldiers were travelling in a Tata 407 vehicle from Imphal towards Bishnupur when the ambush occurred.
Quoting officials, PTI reported, “A group of gunmen ambushed the vehicle in which Assam Rifles personnel were travelling towards Bishnupur district from Imphal, claiming the life of a jawan and injuring three.”
The injured personnel were quickly rushed to hospital with the help of local residents and police teams present in the area. Security forces are yet to issue details on the identity of the attackers, while additional reinforcements have been deployed to the site of the ambush.
