The Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday night began issuing AB forms at Matoshree, marking a key step in finalising candidates for the upcoming municipal elections. The move follows the announcement of an electoral alliance between the Thackeray-led Shiv Sena and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.
According to party sources, AB forms were handed over to candidates contesting seats allocated to the Shiv Sena under the alliance arrangement. Nearly 100 aspirants are said to have received their official authorisation late into the night. The first list reflects the party’s attempt to refresh its organisational base, with noticeable representation given to younger leaders and women candidates.
As news of the AB form distribution spread, a large number of party workers and aspirants gathered outside Matoshree, hoping to secure tickets. Sources said Thackeray personally interacted with each candidate and held brief discussions before handing over the forms.
While several aspirants were visibly elated after receiving their authorisation, the atmosphere at Matoshree was mixed. Many long-time party workers who had been seeking tickets for years were also present, and some openly expressed disappointment after failing to secure AB forms. In a few instances, emotional scenes were witnessed as rejected aspirants vented their frustration, underlining the intense internal competition as the civic polls draw closer.
