Rohit Pawar, MLA and nephew of the late Ajit Pawar, turned visibly emotional while speaking on the condolence motion moved in his uncle’s memory. As he recalled personal moments, Pawar struggled to hold back tears.
The Maharashtra Budget Session began today, and on the very first day, condolence motions were tabled in both Houses of the Maharashtra Legislature to mark Ajit Pawar’s passing.
Speaking during the proceedings, Rohit Pawar described his uncle as “a magician who kept Maharashtra smiling,” adding that with his demise, “the state’s politics has lost its sense of humour.”
Reflecting on their bond, Pawar recounted how Ajit Pawar would often tease him about his hairstyle and fitness. “Once, Dada told me my hair had grown too long and that I should cut it. On the day he passed away, I cut my hair as a tribute,” he said. He added that Ajit Pawar would frequently advise him: “Reduce your physical weight and increase your political weight.” Pawar said he now intends to live by that advice.
Rohit Pawar said he hoped that when he eventually meets his uncle again, he would be able to stand tall. “I want him to place a hand on my back and say, ‘You fought well.’ That is why I will continue this fight,” he said.
Reiterating his demand for accountability, Pawar stressed that justice must be delivered in the accident case.
He also assured his aunt, Ajit Pawar’s wife, of his support, saying he would always be available whenever needed in her political journey.
