Shocking ! Woman Gang Raped in front of Fiancé in Assam, Made to Pay Rs. 10,000

A 28-year-old woman has alleged that she was gang-raped by seven men and forced to transfer ₹10,000 while she was with her boyfriend near Silchar in Assam’s Cachar district. Police confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway.

According to officials, the incident reportedly took place on February 19 near the Bypass Road, a few kilometres from Silchar town. Based on the survivor’s complaint, an FIR was lodged at Silchar Sadar Police Station under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).

The woman alleged that a group of men arrived at the spot in a vehicle, confronted the couple, and overpowered them. She claimed that the accused sexually assaulted her one after another and subsequently compelled her to transfer ₹10,000 to one of their bank accounts before fleeing.

Police said the survivor has identified two of the accused, who have since been arrested. Efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the remaining five suspects. The mandatory medical examination has been conducted, and her statement has been officially recorded, police said as reported by news agency PTI.

The FIR includes charges related to gang rape, extortion, criminal intimidation, unlawful assembly, dacoity, and other offences concerning crimes against women.
The case gained further attention after a local journalist alleged that he was assaulted by relatives of one of the accused for reporting on the incident. A separate complaint has been registered in that matter, and one individual has been taken into custody.

Senior police officials have urged the public not to circulate unverified information on social media and assured that a thorough and impartial investigation is being carried out.

Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev sought strict action in the case and said she had met the Superintendent of Police in Cachar for an update. ''I have met SP Cachar District for an update on action taken There should be no attempt to cover up this case. @AITC4Assam will not tolerate it. Medical report awaited I am told'', the Trinamool Congress MP said.
