President Trump Joins Diwali Celebrations at the White House, Hails PM Modi and India-US Ties

US President Donald Trump joined Diwali celebrations at the White House on Tuesday, extending warm wishes to the people of India and the Indian-American community on the occasion of the festival of lights.

In his opening remarks, President Trump praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing him as “a great person” and “a great friend,” while highlighting the strong and growing partnership between the United States and India, particularly in trade and regional stability.

“Let me extend our warmest wishes to the people of India,” he said. “I just spoke to your Prime Minister today. We had a great conversation about trade he’s very interested in that. We also talked a little while ago about ensuring there are no wars with Pakistan. The fact that trade was involved helped strengthen that dialogue. And we have no war with Pakistan and India, which is a very good thing.”

Referring to Prime Minister Modi, President Trump added, “He’s a great person, and he’s become a great friend of mine over the years.” Several Indian-American business leaders were also present, underscoring the increasing involvement of the diaspora in bolstering bilateral relations.

Following his address, President Trump lit traditional diyas to mark the celebration. Senior officials from his administration were in attendance, including FBI Director Kash Patel, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai, India’s Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra, and the US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor.
