Nation Remembers Pulwama Martyrs: PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi Lead Tributes on Seventh Anniversary of 2019 Attack

Seven years after the devastating terror strike in Pulwama, leaders across India paid homage to the 40 personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force who lost their lives in the 2019 attack, recalling their sacrifice and service to the nation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the tributes, stating that the courage and commitment of the fallen personnel continue to inspire the country. In a message posted on X, he said their devotion and service remain “etched in our collective consciousness,” adding that every Indian draws strength from their enduring bravery.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi also remembered the slain personnel, noting that the nation would forever remain indebted to them for their supreme sacrifice in defending the country. His message highlighted the collective gratitude and remembrance that mark the anniversary each year.

Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan paid homage to the victims, describing their sacrifice as a defining moment in the nation’s history and one that continues to inspire efforts toward building a strong and secure India. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also honoured the fallen personnel, saying their sacrifice reinforces India’s resolve to maintain zero tolerance against cross-border terrorism.

The 2019 Pulwama attack
On February 14, 2019, one of the deadliest terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir took place when a CRPF convoy was targeted along the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway. The convoy comprised 78 buses carrying around 2,500 personnel travelling from Jammu to Srinagar.
A suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into one of the buses, killing 40 CRPF personnel. Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed responsibility for the attack.

In response, India launched a series of counter-terror operations, including airstrikes on terror camps across the border, sharply escalating tensions between the two countries.

February 14 is observed annually as a ‘Black Day’ in remembrance of the victims of the Pulwama attack, with tributes paid across the country to honour the fallen personnel and their sacrifice.
