Maharashtra: Breach of Privilege Motion Passed Against Kunal Kamra and Sushma Andhare during Monsoon Session

A breach of privilege motion has been approved against comedian Kunal Kamra and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare during the ongoing monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislature.

The motion stems from a satirical segment in Kamra’s comedy show “Naya Bharat,” in which he criticized Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The video clip from the show was later shared by the Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) on social media platforms.

Sushma Andhare also created and shared a video targeting the Deputy CM. As a result, both Kamra and Andhare were named in breach of privilege motions. These motions, first proposed during the previous legislative session, have now received official approval.

Kamra had performed a parody song in a studio, which was subsequently vandalized by members of the Shiv Sena. Multiple police complaints were also filed against the comedian in Mumbai. The controversy surrounding the incident sparked debates and reactions within the legislative house.

The breach of privilege motion was formally moved by MLC Pravin Darekar on the last day of the previous session. It has now been confirmed that the motions against both Kunal Kamra and Sushma Andhare have been accepted and notices will be issued to both individuals.
