Kolkata Police Reconstruct Crime Scene in South Calcutta Law College Case; Four Accused Taken to Spot

The Kolkata Police on Friday conducted a crime scene reconstruction with the four arrested accused in a step forward in the South Calcutta Law College gangrape investigation. The exercise, officials said, is essential for verifying the survivor’s account and building a strong case based on physical and circumstantial evidence.

The main accused, Monojit Mishra, a former student of the college was taken to the scene along with current students Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed, and security guard Pinaki Banerjee.

The four men were brought to the college premises early in the morning at around 4:30 am. The reconstruction process, which lasted nearly four hours, was carried out under heavy police security.

“The reconstruction of the crime scene is a vital part of the investigation,” a senior police officer told reporters. “It helps us verify the sequence of events as narrated by the survivor and cross-check that against other available evidence.”

According to the 24-year-old survivor, the alleged gangrape occurred on 25 June and spanned multiple locations within the college campus, including the guard’s room. She stated in her complaint that the incident lasted over three hours and involved forced confinement, physical violence, and threats.

The victim, a first-year law student, said Monojit Mishra claimed that he led her to a room next to the college union office, where he sexually assaulted her after she rejected his advances and a marriage proposal. The complaint further alleges that the act was filmed and that the accused threatened to release the footage on social media to silence her.

A medical examination found scratch marks and nail-inflicted injuries on Mishra’s body, indicating that the victim had resisted. Police say circumstantial evidence, including CCTV footage, aligns with her version of events. The footage reportedly shows the woman being taken into a room by the accused.

“We are matching the survivor’s statements with physical evidence and the timeline derived from CCTV footage,” the officer added. “This reconstruction will play a key role in clarifying the movement and actions of each accused.” Officials confirmed that they are treating the case with the “utmost seriousness” and are in constant touch with the survivor for support and updates.
