Blast Derails Jaffar Express Near Sindh–Balochistan Border; Several Injured

A powerful explosion rocked the Jaffar Express on Tuesday near the Sultankot area, close to the Sindh–Balochistan border, derailing several coaches of the Quetta-bound passenger train.

Preliminary information revealed that the blast was triggered by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted on the railway tracks.

Rescue and security personnel were immediately deployed to the site to assist passengers and secure the area. Medical teams provided emergency treatment to the injured before they were moved to nearby hospitals. Authorities have launched an investigation to identify those responsible and determine how the explosives were placed on the tracks.

Initial rescue reports confirmed multiple injuries, though the exact number of casualties remains unclear. Train services in the region have been suspended as officials clear debris and inspect the site for additional explosive materials. The area has been cordoned off amid heightened security concerns.

In August 2025, a similar IED explosion derailed six coaches of the same train in Mastung district, injuring several passengers.

The Jaffar Express was hijacked on March 11 in the Bolan area during its journey from Quetta to Peshawar, leaving 21 passengers and four security personnel dead. Security forces later killed 33 militants in a counter-operation against those behind the attack.
