BJP Set to Appoint New National President as Nomination Process Concludes Today

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is scheduled to declare its 12th national president on January 20, with senior leaders and state unit chiefs assembling at the party’s central headquarters in New Delhi to participate in the formal nomination process. The announcement is expected to mark an important organisational transition for the party.

BJP national working president Nitin Nabin is widely anticipated to secure the post without contest, with his candidature reportedly enjoying the support of the party’s top leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, according to reports. Nabin is slated to file his nomination today in the presence of senior party functionaries.

According to the official election schedule, nomination papers will be accepted between 2 pm and 4 pm on Monday. Scrutiny of the submissions will take place from 4 pm to 5 pm, followed by a withdrawal window from 5 pm to 6 pm. The national election officer is expected to issue a formal press communiqué at 6:30 pm, outlining the status of the election.

The election of the BJP national president is conducted through an electoral college comprising members of the party’s national council and various state councils. The process is supervised by the national returning officer, in accordance with the party’s constitution. As per these rules, a valid candidate must be jointly proposed by at least 20 members of a state electoral college and must have completed a minimum of 15 years of active party membership.

“The polling will be held, if needed, on January 20 and an official announcement of the name of the new BJP national president will be made the same day,” the party’s national returning officer, K. Laxman, had stated earlier.

Reflecting on the party’s internal structure, BJP MP Hemant Savara said, “The BJP is a democratic party where any worker, through hard work, can rise to the top. Be it Prime Minister Modi or Amit Shah, all began as party workers.” He further added, “The BJP is the only party focused on development-oriented politics.”

Leaders from Bihar have expressed strong support for Nabin’s elevation. State BJP president Sanjay Saraogi described the mood among party workers as enthusiastic, particularly among the youth. “I am very happy that Prime Minister Modi has developed a new generation of leadership in the form of Nitin Nabin. I have come to Delhi today to support him as a proposer. He will move forward carrying the ideology of Narendra Modi and the BJP,” Saraogi said.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary also welcomed the development, calling it a moment of pride for the state and the party.
