One Dead, Three Injured After Parapet Collapse from Under-Construction Metro Bridge in Mumbai’s Mulund

A portion of a parapet wall from an under-construction elevated metro bridge collapsed in Mumbai’s Mulund (West) on Sunday afternoon, leaving one person dead and three others injured after debris fell onto vehicles passing below.

The incident occurred around 12:20 pm near the Johnson & Johnson facility on LBS Road, according to the Mumbai Fire Brigade. Authorities said a section of the parapet wall from the metro structure suddenly gave way and fell onto a moving auto rickshaw and a private Skoda car.

Four people were rushed to Upasani Hospital following the collapse. Hospital officials confirmed that one of them, identified as Ramdhan Yadav, was declared dead on arrival.

Among the injured, Rajkumar Indrajeet Yadav (45) has been admitted to the intensive care unit and remains in critical condition. Mahendra Pratap Yadav (52) and Deepa Ruhiya (40), who also sustained injuries in the incident, are reported to be stable and undergoing treatment.

Emergency services reached the site shortly after the collapse and initiated rescue and relief measures. Officials said the fallen portion of the parapet measured approximately 6 by 4 feet.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), which is overseeing the metro project, stated that all necessary medical assistance is being provided to the injured. Teams from the metro project are currently at the site, working to secure the area in coordination with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and disaster management authorities.

Authorities have ordered an inquiry to determine the cause of the structural failure and assess construction safety protocols and structural stability measures at the site. Further details are awaited as officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
