The Election Commission on Monday changed the polling date of by-poll elections of 14 constituencies from November 13 to November 20. The constituencies with changed election dates are in Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Punjab. The results of the by polls will be declared on November 23.

“Representations have been received in the Commission from various recognised national and state political parties (including BJP, INC, BSP, RLD) and some social organisations for change of date for poll in some Assembly constituencies having by-elections on 13th November, 2024, considering large scale social, cultural and religious engagements on that day which may cause inconvenience to large number of people, give rise to various logistic issues and may lead to reduced voters participating during the poll,” said the Eelction Commission.

The poll panel had scheduled by polls 48 assembly constituencies and 2 Lok Sabha seats on November 13. However, following petitions from several political parties, the by polls for 14 constituencies, 9 in Uttar Pradesh, 4 in Punjab, and 1 in Kerala will now simultaneously be conducted with the Maharashtra Assembly elections and the second phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections on November 20.
