A 60‑year‑old woman suffering from skin cancer was found abandoned near a garbage dump in Aarey Colony on
Saturday, allegedly left there by her grandson, Mumbai Police said. The woman, identified as Yashoda Gaikwad, was discovered in a frail state by officers early in the morning.
According to the police, Gaikwad told authorities that her grandson had brought her to the spot and left her there. Though she was found in the morning, she was admitted to Cooper Hospital only by 5:30 pm after several hospitals refused to accept her due to her medical condition.
Gaikwad, who is battling skin cancer, gave police two addresses, one in Malad and another in Kandivali, believed to be linked to her family. However, efforts to locate her relatives have so far been unsuccessful.
Police have circulated her photograph across stations and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to trace the person responsible. Senior Inspector Patil has urged the public to come forward with any information about the woman or her family.
Authorities said an investigation is ongoing, adding that this incident is a reminder of how cruelty can sometimes come from those closest to the person.
